other family members from all over Texas; and his beloved dog, Nyquist Theodore Logan. Cullen’s
extended family includes friends, coworkers, and friends and family in the recovery communities of
Austin.
He was preceded in death by brother Eric Johnson of Austin, grandfather Mike Ashford of
Dale, grandmother Nancy Logan of Austin, great-grandmother Maribel Cullen of Buda, and many
other beloved family members from all over Texas.
Cullen, a life member of the Texas Exes, graduated in the top 5% of his class in the Electrical
and Computer Engineering school at the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He graduated with
honors from Bowie High School in South Austin in 2001. Before leaving high school, Cullen was
already working in the computer field with SigmaTel (later Freescale). In 2007, while with SigmaTel,
Cullen moved to Taiwan for a year to work with Philips Consumer Electronics. A job offer from
Microsoft to work on its Windows Phone 7 launch took him to Seattle. He then joined various
engineering teams at Amazon. Cullen returned home to Austin in July 2013. Most recently, Cullen was
employed by Roku in its Austin offices.
Cullen was a loving and selfless person, always caring for his huge family and his friends
and working on his personal life journey with his Higher Power. Cullen learned in times of adversity
along the way to ask, “What is God teaching me now?” He earned and has been given the Keys to the
Kingdom.
His love for his niece was immeasurable, and he was an amazing uncle. Cullen had a
passion for cultivating roses, as his Mammaw taught him. His love for the guitar and his
introspective nature led him to compose and perform many pieces of music and poetry. His passion
and love for others made him a dedicated member of the fellowship. He was a self-described “llover
of numbers and proud logophile [and] an ambulatory contradiction whose favorite word [was]
lemniscate (Bernoulli’s; not Booth’s horse fettering hogwash) but favorite number [was] zero.”
Cullen’s philosophical musings brought comfort to many of his family and friends, and some
of his thoughts, including the following, can be found at cullenlogan.com:
“You are only a part of something so big, so enormous that your mind cannot comprehend.
This is the infinite. This is the 99.99% of emptiness in the universe and the atom. This allows us to be.
With so much emptiness between us, we can somehow join hands in brotherly and harmonious
action. This is God. This is my peace.
May you have everything you need and want from life. You deserve it, and are certainly worth
it.
If you have read through this, I love you.
If you have not, I love you.
If you are lost, I love you.
And if you are found, I love you.
May you know such love and share it with the world. I know not what distance separates me
from you, but if you are reading this, can you honestly believe in such separation. Rest assured that
as you read, there is a chain of molecules connecting you to me, and that my smile has set in motion
a chain reaction that will last forever. Affecting every future thing in the universe. May I always have
a smile, and one to loan you when you have none.
Peace, Love, and Music,
Cullen Logan”
